I initiated a test on the fuel consumption for the Proton Saga 1.3 BLM Auto. I pushed the car a little further than the RM50 filled could do(so i’m being a little merciful here). 25% of the overall driving, i revved the car up to 4krpm and the rest were well under 2.5krpm. Here are the rankings.

For every RM10 (Fuel price at RM1.80 per litre)
1. Myvi – 90km
2. Proton Saga BLM – 67km
3. Evo 3 powered Proton – 54km

Close call between the 2 litre turbo and the Saga’s 1.3. But there are some things to bear in mind from this test.

1. The Saga is still in its break-in period
2. The Saga still uses regular oils and plugs (Proton products) where as the Evo 3 uses Motul oils and Iridium plugs.
3. The Saga is an auto, hence alot of power is lost when it finally gets to the wheels

However, I will do another test though, after the Saga’s break-in period, with better oils and plugs. I have to say, the best part about this car is.. its price for a full sized sedan.
